The Beaucaire Bulletin – Friday September 30, 2011

Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful week learning all about colors and the letter “Cc”!  The students experimented with mixing colors to create new colors.  They observed that mixing together red and yellow makes orange, red and blue makes purple, and blue and yellow makes the color green.  We learned a new song called, “I Can Sing a Rainbow”.  We played a color memory game with Ms. Wolf  in speech.  We also counted, sorted and graphed different colored M&M’s candies.  The students have been hard at work in math learning how to form the written numbers correctly.  We are making a numbers book and when we are finished, the books will be sent home.  Today we baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  The students took turns pouring the cookie mix into the bowl, scooping out the butter and mixing in the egg.  Next, we rolled the cookies into balls and baked them in the toaster oven.  They were delicious!  The Hamilton Walk-A-Thon is coming up on October 12th.  Please help raise money for our school!  Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend!

The Beaucaire Bulletin – September 23, 2011

Dear Parents,

We spent the week talkingabout feelings and emotions.  The students listened to stories about sharing and being a good friend.  We acted out different feelings and took photographs of the students making happy, sad, angry, silly, sleepy, scared and sick faces.  It was hilarious!  In math we worked on writing the numbers 1-5, patterning faces, and graphing.  Our letter of the week was the letter ”Bb” this week.  We practiced writing the uppercase “B” and lowercase “b” on the white board.  We made a book containingpictures of things that start withthe/b/ sound.  At the end of the week we made butter!  The students poured whippingcream into a container, put a marble inside it, and shook it until it changed into butter.  Then we added some salt and spread it on crackers.  It was delicious!  We will be incorporating a cooking lesson each week that will correspond to our letter of the week.

In other news, if you have a child who will be of preschool age during the 2012-2013 school year and you like for them to attend the Tuition Based Preschool Program at Hamilton, applications will be available in mid October.

Finally, I found a wonderful website called  www.hearingloss.org.  This website is an advocacy organization and online community for hearing loss.

Don’t forget – NO SCHOOL on Friday September 23rd.

Hope you have a nice long weekend!

Ms. Beaucaire

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week!  We began our letter of the week unit with the introduction of the letter “Aa” .  We talked about how “a”  has two sounds and we colored pictures of things that start withthe letter “a”.  I also introduced a new behavior management system this week.  It is called, “Caught Bee-ingGood!”   Each student is given a paper bee with their name on it.  They place their bee on the wall in the morning and it stays there ( as long as they are following the class rules).  If a rule is broken, they must remove their bee from the wall and an appropriate consequence will be given.  So far, the students are doing a great job!!  We also worked on identifying the five senses this week and finished our study by making applesauce.  The students had a great time washing, peelingand cutting the apples (not to mention, eating the applesauce!)  Finally, we have been working on identifying various body parts and talking about their functions.  I sent home a picture vocabulary paper on Monday.  I will do this on a weekly basis or as our units change.  I hope this will be helpful to you and your child!

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

Dear Parents,

The school year has gotten off to a great start!  The students came into school excited and ready to learn.  I was so happy to see everyone and hear about their summer.  This week we read books about going to school and discussed the different people who work in a school.  We reviewed body parts by playing “Simon Says”, practiced rote counting, and learned a new “days of the week” song and a “goodbye” song to wrap up our day.  We are all adjusting to the longer school day quite well.  The students seem to enjoy having a consistent block of time for lunch and then recess.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year at Hamilton!  I hope everyone had a fantastic summer.  I have some wonderful new ideas and activities planned for the students and I can’t wait to get started!  This year I will be posting a weekly newsletter on the school website to inform you of classroom and schoolwide events.  Our first day of school is on Tuesday September 6th.  There has been a change to our school hours.  Students will begin school at 7:55am and be dismissed at 2:30pm (bus students will line up at 2:15pm).  This will allow for the students to have a block of time in the middle of each day for lunch and recess.  There have also been some great changes and additions to the school.  We now have a teachinggarden on the west side of the school, the kitchen in the basement has been updated and we are in the process of getting a new floor in the gym!

Our universal breakfast program will continue as last year.  All students will receive a free hot or cold breakfast which will be eaten in the classroom.  Our lunch/recess time is 10:40-11:25am and we will have an afternoon snack time.  Gym class is on Tuesday.  Please make sure that your child wears a white shirt, blue pants, and gym shoes every Tuesday.  Please send in an extra set of clothing (shirt, pants, underwear and socks) with your child’s name written on everything to be kept at school.  Also, send in a package of  hearing aid or cochlear implant batteries to be kept at school.

The principal has requested all parents to pay a $60 fee to cover the cost of school supplies and instructional materials.  If you are unable to pay the fee, there is a waiver form that can be submitted to the office.  I will be sending home emergency forms, lunch forms, and media release forms on the first day of school.  Please fill these out and send them back to school as soon as possible.

More information will be discussed at our Open House which will be held on Tuesday September 13th from 5:30-7:00pm.  If you have any questions, you can email me at nabeaucaire@cps.edu , write your question down in your child’s communication notebook, or call the school office at (773) 534-5484.

I am looking forward to a great school year!

Ms. Nancy Beaucaire
