Mr. Burke

Daniel J. Burke has taught general music, choir and several bands at Hamilton School since the 2004/05 school year. Since he has started teaching at Hamilton, he has founded the school percussion band and taken the choir to its first City-Wide Music Festival were they received a rating of Excellent. Mr. Burke is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Chicago Area Kodály Educators and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Mr. Burke is an active freelance musician and has performed with da Cornetto Opera co., New Classic Singers and Schola St. Peter’s. Daniel plays trombone in a Jazz Band comprised of Chicago Public Schools music teachers, called Noteworthy, that performed in the 2010 Chicago Jazz Festival in the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Mr. Burke’s interests outside of music include reading and ice hockey. Mr. Burke is a graduate of VanderCook College of Music and Hinsdale Central High School. Daniel lives with his wonderful wife on the South Side of Chicago.
 

Welcome to Black History Month!  Our 4th grade is learning to dance a Hambone. A Hambone is an African-American song and dance in which the performers sing, dance and play body percussion.

Our sendond grade is learning about the music of South Africa.  We wear kente cloth outfits and play a circle game called Nampaya Omame.
